Pearly Queens

The month of June is a Pearl birthstone month so I thought I would do a nice feature on some of my pearl inspired wedding products just before the month is up. They are a lovely classic to wear to any wedding and were my choice as is the case for a lot of brides. There is something so vintage about them. Plus I have a very cute 2 year old niece called Pearl so this is in honour of her too!

As a pressie for looking after the pending baby for nearly 9 months (so far so good we hope!) my hubby got me a gorgeous little vintage style hard bag from Reiss- it is all Mother of pearl like and in the shape of a shell (I am rather obsessed by all things geological like this) I love it so thanks Ed! It goes perfectly with my desperate to be worn again wedding shoes. He says this was not something he did on purpose or knowingly. I think he is trying to appear more macho than he really is! Also it will be spot on with pearly jewellery and what could be cuter than a shell bag with some pearls- after all this is where they come from- check out wikipedia for more info if you are a geek like me. Oh dear- too much time on my hands!

Here is a look back at some of the things I have made featuring pearls this season. Some seed pearls, some old vintage earings used as trims, some traditional.

Right, I am finally signing off to start a new job, being a mum. As of Monday we hope! I will be blogging sporadically when I get it together over the next 6 months! Silver Sixpence in her Shoe is not officially trading again until Feb 2011 but will be back with a bang for Spring 2011 wedding season with lots of new and gorgeous products. Any queries please don't hesitate to email nicolacarroll@hotmail.co.uk and keep checking the blog for a few surprises! There is already a vintage wedding fayre in the pipeline for Feb 2011, exciting things lie ahead!

Lots of love

It's all about me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right, now there's being organised and then there's being silly with it, but as those of you who know me will know I am the latter. I have a VERY important wedding to go to at the end of July and given I am about to give birth I have no idea what size I will be, potential disaster in the clothing stakes! I am really hoping to wear something that will match in with this little headpiece I have made up using some vinatge pearl earings that had broken and some pale pink silk dupion with lace trim.

So all you wedding guests for 2011 can get emailing me too in time for my mat leave finishing in Feb 2011 with your orders! Here is another I made earlier.........

One final garter

One final add on to the collection for summer weddings before I call it a day- had to make sure everything that I have done has been logged and is up to date on here even if I can't trade! Am I really having a baby on Monday??!!

A garter for a Scottish September wedding. Wedding pics to follow after the big day- best of luck to all involved!

Another Royal credit and some

Ooooooo I am being very pro Royal today which is not like me at all. Princess Victoria of Sweden got married last week and I think she looked gorgeous ( minus the crown but I guess a princess is allowed) Moreso I think her dress is gorgeous- like a Grace Kelly fairytale! What a beautiful and classy 50s style neckline.

Yet again credit to Rex features and you can see pics on www.marieclaire.co.uk

I would also like to credit our friends Gavin and Evelyn who have just got married in Singapore a couple of weeks ago- the UK wedding is this Saturday and sadly with the arrival of baby on monday pending, we cannot make it. Evelyn you looked gorgeous and your veil is just stunning with those flowers! Gav you look not bad too!

Competition winner

I have had a lovely email from last weeks competition winner Claire Hurd saying she received her bridal treat set and will be sending pics and blogging after her Sept wedding. Good luck to Claire! Here is what she won......

Ascot ladies day ideas

Have just been having a nose on Marie Claire's website at the ladies day photos from Ascot last week. I must be careful not to get in trouble- all images are by Rex features and you can access them here
http://www.marieclaire.co.uk. It is brilliant and worth a look at the crazy conncoctions people have chosen of course! However, I was looking for something a little more tasteful and some inspiration for my bridal designs. I thought the ladies below looked great so these are my choices, not necessarily for headwear only, just stylish. Check out the princess too- don't normally rate our royals wardrobe choices but she looks wicked!

I'm going a bit Dotty

Well that bit above is true, pregnancy has definitely sent me a bit dotty at times. Anyways I am catching up on some posts before that part of the business has to go on hold too! here I am featuring the Dotty Hairpiece. An order for a cool east London bride who wanted something a little different and not too bridey bridey, this has been one of my faves! A cute 40s retro style fascinator incorporating a vintage brooch, some polka dot fabric and a birdcage veil. Very vintage and simple but elegant to match her look for the big day in October! Looking forward to seeing her wedding pics in the future as it sounds like it is going to be a funky wedding!

It's a Bonnie day!

Ah....new product finished yesterday. I was slaving away whilst many of you will have been sunbathing if you have weather anything like here! Got to get it all sorted before maternity leave kicks in!
2 young Scottish bridesmaids have been my latest project- hence the name, the Bonnie Bows. I am loving personalising things at the moment too. Lovely satin bows on combs with hand embellished crystals and pearls.

Stop press! Silver Sixpence competition for you all!

It's 5.30am and I am up blogging unable to sleep. This being pregnant thing plays havoc with your sleeping patterns! Well it is not long till the baby comes, although I hope I still have my supposed 5 weeks left as am not at all ready! I have stopped trading at Silver Sixpence now but will still be blogging and coming up with lots of new ideas in time for next years Spring wedding season.

In the meantime, I am feeling very generous so have decided to invite all you lovely brides out there to enter my competition to win your wedding day garter, ring pillow and beautiful padded hanger for your dress, all in a cute co-ordinated package with summery candy stripe blue and white ribbons and cute lace trims. It's the Rita set from the spring collection 2010.

All you need to do is become a fan of my facebook page and blog and pass me on to as many people as possible. Then email me at nicolacarroll@hotmail.co.uk with your name and address and the winner will be picked at random and announced on the blog end of next week- friday 11th June.

The 1st of many I hope!
