I have just started doing Mother of the Bride this year. From what I have been hearing, quite often mums spend a lot more on their outfit than the bride! It's important stuff! I have had loads of mums interested at the fairs this year too so am looking forward to expanding this area and seeing a few of you for consultations. Check out this lovely lady below who was my very first mother of the bride. She has a bespoke black and green bow headress with goose feathers and grosgrain trim and a matching brooch for her bag. All made to match her outfit perfectly!
It's my first mothers day as a mummy myself this year so I am feeling really generous! Silver Sixpence are doing a fab giveaway. All brides who bring their mum to us for her headress will receive a free gift of a beautiful bespoke garter for the big day, examples of some below to tempt you.
You can email me at nicolacarroll@hotmail.co.uk for more info or through my facebook page

And remember everything you see on the website as bridal can be done in colours to match the mums too. Feel free to spread the word......Right bubs is awake and I am off to get the cakes out of the oven and dinner on- proper mum stuff!

West Didsbury Wedding Event
Last weekend saw the first West Disbury Wedding Event - a lovely afternoon where all of West Didsbury's finest independent wedding based businesses came together at Rhubarb restaurant on Burton Rd. I was so chuffed to be involved with some fantastic wedding peeps in my area- to name a few The White Closet, And The Dish Ran Away with the Spoon and Silver Apples. It was a fabby relaxed afternoon- no pushy sales people. Just as I like it and very West Didsbury!
I had a new look stall for the day complete with vintage lace table cloth and a new display stand to show off my wares. Top product of the day.... deffo the shoe clips- seems to be forming a trend at the mo. I met some lovely brides to be that are getting married in the next few weeks so was glad to hear I am not the only person who left it all till the last minute!
Jonny Draper did a great photo shoot out and about on Burton Road with a real bride- you can see this at http://blog.didsburylife.com/ Am looking forward to seeing the final film edit of the day too done by Pearls and Lace films.
Thanks to Helen at Didsbury Life for organising the website and admin surrounding it all. Roll on the next one, it was a big success! Next time please can I request I am not next to the cakes - it's torture!

West Didsbury Wedding Event
For Silver Sixpence's next event I am really pleased to be involved with a wedding event involving only local wedding suppliers. Since moving to West Didsbury I have got a feel for what a small and close knit community there is here and this extends to the businesses in the area too. I kind of fell into doing this event but am so pleased it happened. Looking forward to meeting lots of local brides to be!

The Vintage Wedding Fair - Harrogate
Sunday 27th Feb was the day and what a great event this was. My first wedding fair and I was a real mixture of nerves and excitement. I am so glad I took part in this event, it really was perfect for Silver Sixpence product. After a bit of a battle with a very full car park I lugged all my stuff inside. Lesson one, take a helper! As usual I was thinking I would be fine to do everything by myself but I will definitely need a helper next time round. Any volunteers welcome!
The Fair was held at the gorgeous St George hotel on Rippon Road in the heart of Harrogate across 2 of the function rooms. We had 1000 people come to visit so it was a hectic day from start to finish. In fact there was a point in the middle of the day when I couldn't get to everyone waiting to talk to me at the stall so if I missed you then I am so sorry and please do get in touch via my website http://www.silver-sixpence-in-her-shoe.co.uk/
I had a great spot next to the vintage style tea room run by the Marvellous Tea Dance Co
http://www.themarvellousteadancecompany.co.uk so had lots of people checking the stall out whilst queuing for tea and cakes. Plus a huge temptation to eat cake! They almost looked too pretty to eat.
I only managed to get a chance to see what was going on in my room given I was so busy (by the way a big thanks to Pocket Typewriter on the next stall to me for allowing me to check out the competition and go to the loo!) I must mention how fantastic their bespoke wedding stationary is- the cutest and most unusual I have ever seen. Sadly I can't seem to find a facebook page or website for them to post up here.
The room was brimming with gorgeous vintage suppliers of dresses, jewellery, headwear and shoes and ontop of that there were plenty of folk like me selling and promoting their vintage style wares. I won't mention the direct competition...that would be silly!..but there were some gorgeous stalls.
Check out my favourites, Vintage Twee for all your table decs on the day
http://www.vintagetwee.com
Bethany Jane Davies Vintage style hair and make up- the girls on the stall looked so glamorous they out us all to shame!

So roll on September 18th as I hope to be back at the next one! Check out the official website as Keeley, the organiser is doing lots of other exciting stuff too.

I just want to say thanks to all the lovely brides to be I met on the day for all the kind comments you made about my work- it makes it all worthwhile!
